What a dumb question. Of course the Telecoms should not
be punished for helping to protect us all from terrorists. But they should be punished
for breaking the law, just like any other lawbreaker should.
I find it ironic that the president of the Foundation for the Defense of
Democracies has so little faith in that which he purports to defend
that he thinks that democracies can be defended only by violating the rule of
law.
Am I accusing him of being a fear-monger? Not at all. I just
question the strength of his faith in democracy.
